The report emphasized, the need for equal access to quality HIV services as both a human rights and public health imperative. Release of the UNAIDS report also prompted AHF officials to reflect on the disproportionate amount of attention or focus that has recently been placed on pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP as a possible method of HIV prevention. In 2013, there were 1.5 million AIDS deaths globally. Today, UNAIDS releases the dispiriting news that 19 million of the 35 million living with HIV/AIDS do not even know they are infected with the virus. Yet many in the AIDS community and the media remain disproportionately focused on PrEP, added AHFs Weinstein. In November 2007, the World Health Organization made headlines when it revised its estimate of people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide from approximately 39 million down to 33 million.

France Is Charging News Outlets For Access To D-day Anniversary
AFP PHOTO/CHARLY TRIBALLEAU (Photo credit should read CHARLY TRIBALLEAU/AFP/Getty Images) | CHARLY TRIBALLEAU via Getty Images reddit PARIS (AP) Millions of viewers worldwide could miss live coverage of the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day next week because the French president's office reversed a decision to grant international news agencies free access to the broadcast. The administration of Francois Hollande has handed two French broadcast networks exclusive rights to the main international ceremony, and they are now imposing sports-style syndication fees on global news agencies, satellite and cable news channels, and online news outlets. "By granting access to only a few select channels and charging prohibitive sums, millions of viewers around the world will be unable to witness this historic, global event, the solemnity of which will reflect the commitment of an international array of forces 70 years ago," Carroll said. "We believe the Elysee and its French broadcast partners should allow free and unrestricted access to all newsgathering organizations." The global news director of Agence France-Presse, Philippe Massonnet, called the restrictions "incomprehensible." "The commercialization of this historic event is shocking," he said.
